BLACK ASCENSION
Black Asension is constructed from Queen palm fronds and explores the dichotomy of being Black in America. I wanted it to reflect current protests for justice, and the rise and resilience of Black people, as well as, environmental concerns. I repurposed natural materials, and use them as a metaphor. Even in the fiercest storms palm trees will stay rooted in the ground, during a hurricane, they can be blown parallel to the ground. After the storm passes, it will rise back up until it’s standing tall. The palm tree is the epitome of resilience…
